This program was possible one of the most eventful ones I hosted. We had an all star panel and an audience that pulled no punches. “I’ll Never Call you a B*tch Again” set the AUC twitter feed ablaze with quotes and comments.

Part of the programs this semester were aimed at spiritual development and alternatives to going out to hit the club scene. Here is the First of two events entitled the Kingdom Kickback. Its my directorial debut!

I don’t know who on staff decided to play what I thought to be a joke and place me as a suites RA but I’d like to say thank you. Often the emphasis is put on the first year experience as the most pivotal at Morehouse but I’ve learned upperclassmen brothers need help as well. One of the best ways is providing the protection necessary as the Otis Moss West Suites provide a new level of Freedom.

Its been too long

Family in what has been one of my most challenging semesters yet over the next few days I will be posting to update you on what has been going on in my life. I have a lot to share from panels, to programs, to lessons, and random events that made my experience the in fall 2011 one to remember.

Sundays

Sundays are supposed to be days of rest but more often than not I spend Sundays tutoring residents well into the am. Sometimes this takes place down stairs other times in my room. This has been relatively successful most often they see a grade increase & retention of information. Antonio Brown in particular has struggled silently & modestly all year but since my tutoring he has seen improvements in grades. His biggest challenge is confidence level he often second guesses himself then makes connections to unrelated events. Targeting that I worked to first reassure him on what he knew, second teach him on how his train of thought should go, & third how to explain those points. I usuall do my best TL start with major ideas then work my way to details. For example we will note the event, then major players, major issues, & then go to details like times dates etc. Hopefully more residents will seek my help before finals!

Praise Fest was possibly my favorite event. I did it in conjunction with Darryl Frye & Seth Brown along with the rest of the council staff from Spelman & CAU. This event was huge & true ministry took place. Many of my residents showed up & found their way to the altar by the services ending. It was possibly one of my most fulfilling experiences as class president & RA.

Sophomore Week by far one of the most epic weeks in the AUC this year. I was able to include my younger brothers in the several events. A lot of them showed up throughout the week watching as I worked but also seeing how my class operated as a functioning dysfunctional family. This I believe is often the essence of being in the AUC the ability simultaneously balance several hats playing both President & big brother at the same time.

Marvin Foster with the ill Snap-Back!! Marvin Foster is one of my most down to Earth residents. In the vying of the year he made a failed bid at beginning freshman class president. I assisted in giving him sone ideas & also watched as he bounced back. Since then I have supported him & encouraged his latest creative efffort in “BYE” Black Young & Everything. This group of individuals put on a poetry night & cypher for freshman week. The also have done videos and “top deck” cyphers in the parking deck. Marvin’s creativity & drive to accomplish keep me inspired. He also is currently pursuing establishment of a Morehouse radio. Over this past year I have watched him become enhanced as an individual & entrepreneur.

This is how some Haitians live specifically the women who take subordinate roles even in living standards.
